OpenClicky is a free, open-source voice assistant for macOS. Hold ⌃ control + ⌥ option and ask about anything on your screen: a pointer flies out of the notch and shows you where the answer is. Hold fn and talk to dictate into any app. It can also do small tasks for you, like opening an app or making a folder, and hand bigger work to a Codex agent.
Yes. The app is free and MIT licensed. Dictation with Apple's on-device recogniser costs nothing and needs no account. For spoken answers, pointing and polished dictation you can add your own OpenAI or Anthropic key (you pay them directly) or create a free OpenClicky account with your email.
Dictation does: by default it uses Apple's on-device speech recogniser, so your voice never leaves your Mac. Asking about your screen and spoken answers need a model provider, so they need the internet and either your own key or a free account.
Your question and a screenshot of your screen go to the model that answers it: straight to OpenAI or Anthropic when you use your own key, or through the OpenClicky backend when you use a free account. Your own keys are never sent to OpenClicky's servers. Dictation history stays on your Mac.
Siri answers in words. OpenClicky looks at what is on your screen and points at the exact button, menu or setting, so you learn where things are. It also dictates in the style of the app you are in and is open source.
Those are dictation apps. OpenClicky dictates too, offline by default and free, and it also answers questions about your screen by pointing at the answer, and can hand tasks to an agent. Its source code is public under the MIT licence.
Dictation works in the languages Apple's on-device recogniser supports. With a Sarvam key it hears eleven Indian languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia and English, in native script or roman letters.
A Mac with macOS 14.2 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel. The app is notarized by Apple. On first run it asks for Microphone and Accessibility permission, and Screen Recording when you first ask about your screen. On a PC: Windows 10 (2004 or later) or 11, x64 or ARM64; get it for Windows.
Yes. OpenClicky for Windows 10 and 11 (x64 and ARM64) is a native Windows app, contributed by the community: download it for Windows. There is also an early Linux version (X11): see the Linux guide on GitHub.
OpenClicky is made by FlowsXR in Singapore. The idea comes from Google DeepMind's AI pointer, a pointer that understands what is on your screen; OpenClicky is an independent, open-source take on it, and its first Mac version was built on Farza's open-source Clicky. It is developed in the open on GitHub, where contributions are welcome.
This is what it does on your MacPC, only there it points at your apps instead of a web page.
